A mass exodus of Christians is fleeing the Islamic world, writes Raymond Ibrahim for Fox News. “The flight of Christians out of the region is unprecedented and it’s increasing year by year,” The U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) wrote in its annual report. More than half the Christian population has fled Iraq since the outbreak of war in 2003 while a similar exodus is beginning in Egypt and is expected to occur in Syria’s near future.

Western diplomats, military officials and analysts are saying that the war in Mali is directed by the al-Qaeda. Local residents report that the commanders and leaders are all “Arab speakers”. Al-Qaeda leaders have said that a “jihadist Islamist emirate” would be created in northern Mali.

The warring conflict between Islamist rebels and the Malian military continues to rage in Mali. Most missionaries have fled the country and worry for the Mali believers they left behind. It is known that the Islamist rebels have “sought to eliminate any hint of Christianity.” However, reports indicate that Christians are standing firm, and need our prayers.

In one year, Mali went from unranked on Open Door's list of the top fifty worst persecutors of Christians to number 7. The collapse of the government and the takeover of Islamic extremists is the reason for this drastic change. When the extremists took over, Christians living in northern Mali were driven south by increased persecution. As the Islamists pushed south, many Christians feared having to leave Mali to survive. Several weeks ago, France decided to intervene in the conflict and has since pushed back the extremists. Many Christians are praising the French for their recent military success.

From Mali to Egypt, and from Syria and Iraq to Pakistan, millions of Christians find themselves threatened daily with humiliation, extortion, displacement, and murder,” he says.
