ICC Note:

Reports have emerged of another Christian pastor in India being attacked and beaten by Hindu radicals. Sunny Tyagi, a Protestant Pastor, was attacked and beaten by radicals in Uttar Pradesh. Attacks on Christians in India have skyrocketed in recent years. In 2016 alone, ICC has already documented over 150 separate instances of Christians or their places of worship being attacked by Hindu radicals. Many blame the current government, and its lack of enforcement for minority communities, for this negative trend. Will the escalation in attacks on Christians in India continue or will India’s government finally step in?

8/30/2016 India (Agenzia Fides) – Sunny Tyagi, who converted to Christianity and became a Protestant Pastor, was beaten by a mob of Hindu radicals who broke into a private house where a prayer meeting in the district of Gonda, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, was being held. This was reported to Fides by Sajan K. George, President of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC).

On August 26, 2016, around 8 am, Pastor Sunny Tyagi of the Church of the Assembly of believers was leading a liturgy in the house of a believer, when suddenly ten Hindu radical militants broke into the house and interrupted the meeting, threatening the faithful and started beating the pastor, accused of proselytizing.
