Goat Herder Given New Life Through Jesus and Hand of Hope Fund

Sami in Algeria turned to Islam after losing his sight in an accident that led to his wife leaving him. “If I pray with insistence, surely God will answer me and change my life to give me some relief and consolation,” he would tell himself. But, no answer came and Sami fell deeper into depression.

Years later, Sami (name changed for security) remarried a woman who was also blind. In 2005, he stumbled across a Christian satellite program and heard the Gospel. He began attending a local church, and eventually gave his life to Christ. Not long after, Sami’s wife became very ill and he remembered the sick can be healed through prayer. Sami laid hands on his wife and she instantly felt better. In response, she also gave her life to Christ. Sami began preaching the Good News to all his neighbors, but persecution soon followed.

Sami had been making a meager income caring for his neighbor’s cows, but the neighbor fired him for becoming a Christian. Sami and his wife became very poor and even their families refused to help them. In response, ICC purchased goats and sheep for Sami that he can breed and sell, which will provide the family with a sustainable income. We thank our generous donors for providing for brother Sami, his wife, and their four young children by giving to our Hand of Hope-Africa fund. The livestock has given Sami a fresh start as he continues to be bold in his faith, sharing Christ with his family and neighbors.

ICC is constantly monitoring the state of Christian persecution in countries around the world and looking for ways that we can act as bridge between our supporters and the persecuted church. Beyond the projects you see above, we are working in many other areas to provide practical assistance to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
