ICC sponsors an orphanage in India for children who lost their parents in the attacks against Christians in Orissa in 2008. Though the children have all their basic needs met, they are still very poor and none of them have ever had a birthday party in their honor! Through the help of an ICC donor, we were able to give enough money that each child will have a birthday party and a gift this year!
The orphanage director reported on the first birthday celebrated:
“We arranged a surprise birthday party for Ranoj. When everything [was ready] for the party we called all the children. They came in, astonished to see the arrangements. Ranoj was shocked to see his big picture on the poster. After receiving [a new outfit] he was very happy and after receiving the gift he became speechless. He [has seen a] few birthday parties, but never thought [he would have his] own birthday celebration.
We started the party with a word of prayer by a local evangelist, who was called for this party. When a lotus flower (magic candle) was lit, a musical birthday song came out and everybody’s mouth was opened with surprise. He blew all the candles and children sang the birthday song for him. He cut the cake and gave it to all the children. He also distributed the chocolates, sweets, and drinks to all the children and to Bro. Ranosh*, ICC evangelist, was also present on this occasion to bless the birthday boy. After the special dinner the party came to an end. This day became a memorable day for him. The children enjoyed the whole party and dinner. Now, the rest of the children have started asking about their date of birth. All the children are very excited and waiting for their turn. The day ended with joy and happiness.”
