Aiding a Child Injured in an Attack on Egyptian Christians

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

On March 5, a Muslim mob burned down a church in the village of Soul, 30 kilometers outside of Cairo. Days later, Coptic Christians from Mokattam, a poor Coptic suburb of Cairo, were on their way to join a demonstration in downtown Cairo denouncing the attack. The group was confronted by a Muslim mob that began throwing stones at them. At first the military stood by watching, then shot in the air, then at the Coptic protestors. The confrontation got out of hand and eleven people were killed, mostly Christians.

ICC brought aid to families whose caretakers were killed in the violence. Here a Coptic boy who was injured in the attack receives medical attention. Today, more than a hundred patients who cannot afford treatment remain in the hospital.
