Ten Christians Arrested in Chhattisgarh, Two More Incidents
01/21/09 India (Evangelical Fellowship of India) - Police on January 5 arrested ten Christians on the basis of the complaint lodged by Hindu extremists in Kua Kunda police station, Dendewada, Chhattisgarh.
According to EFI correspondent, Akhilesh Edgar, Bastar for Christ (BFC) church was having a Christmas picnic in Phulpad on December 25.
The waste plates and the leftovers from the picnic were taken to a Hindu temple by some miscreants and a picture was taken.
On the basis of this photograph, the extremists filed a police complaint against the believers of BFC church.
The police arrested ten Christians including the church associate pastor identified as Shankar Sona under Section 295 of the Indian Penal Code for defiling a place of worship.
The Christians were released the same day on bail.
Another incident
On January18, about 1000 Hindu extremists apposing the Christians gathered in Palnar, Dendewada, Chhattisgarh.
The extremists shouted anti- Christian's slogans protesting the Christian's activities in the area, claiming that they wanted to wipe out all the Christians and their activities in the area, reported EFI correspondent, Akhilesh Edgar.
The report also says that many Christians in these areas were beaten and attacked because of their faith.
The police after several calls by the Christian leaders came to the spot and disperse the crowd.
Police Summon Pastor for Enquiry in Madhya Pradesh
Hindu extremists allegedly from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on January 18 lodged a police complaint against a pastor, accusing him of selling a book titled, "Secularism and Hindutva" by M.G Matthew in Annupur, Madhya Pradesh.
EFI correspondent, Akhilesh Edgar reported that Pastor Paulose Venkatrao from the Pentecostal Church was organising a three day convention, where non-Christians and Christians were invited.
The local Christians opened up a book stall in the Convention in which were also some books written by M.G Matthew, an advocate in Kerala.
The extremists picked up the book called "Secularism and Hindutva" and lodged a police complaint against some lines in the book.
The police on the basis of the complaint went to the pastor's house for enquiry on January 18. The next day he was summoned to the police station for further questioning.
The police let him go but told him to be ready for any further interrogation.
