KENYA : State Pledges to Negotiate Release of Held Nuns

In November 2008, two Catholic nuns were abducted from Kenya and taken to Somalia . The nuns are still held by their captors. The authorities of Kenya promised to work with authorities of Somalia in order to secure the release of the nuns. Please pray for the safe release of the nuns.
01/09/2009 Kenya (CISA) -The government of Kenya has assured Italy that it will do all it can to secure the release of two nuns held by gunmen in Somalia .
Internal security minister Prof. George Saitoti pledged to negotiate with the new Somali administration to ensure the nuns and other abducted persons are released safely, the official Kenya News Agency reported.
He promised to do everything possible to see to it that Sister Caterina Giraudo, 67, and Sister Maria Teresa Oliviero, 61, along with 94 humanitarian workers abducted are rescued, according to the agency. Prof Saitoti was speaking when he received Italian special envoy Ms Margherita Bohiver at his office on Friday.
Ms Bohiver urged the Kenyan government to act fast to rescue the nuns abducted from El Wak town on the Somali border two months ago, adding that the government had the expertise and the capacity to rescue the abductees. The two nuns were captured on November 10 last year.
